Day 10: Bernie Victory Rally!!
Manchester, NH
Today is the day we will see if our hard work has paid off. We're feeling pretty good. We are volunteering at the hopefully 'Victory' Rally tonight. This is a smaller event and we were told off the bat that more people has RSVP'd than we have room for. In addition, the fire people were being super harsh, so we needed to be careful. We helped set up the chairs for the ADA section again and then I got to help out with at the VIP sign-in table. It was crazy. Luckily, I have years of customer service experience so I know how to deal with upset people pretty well. Many people thought that they were VIP because they had signed the general form online. Nope. The VIP thing was for staffers, certain supporters, and special guests. The list had names on it such as Dr. Cornel West and Cynthia Nixon. Unfortunately, they came in the back entrance and I didn't get to see them. I just spent my time mostly signing in staffers and giving them special armbands. We had to keep up a count of the people we signed in so we wouldn't get shut down. In the midst of this craziness, CNN was on the big screen in the main room and the crowd would go crazy when more results came in.
Eventually, the VIP table slowed down and my leader let me go inside if I wanted to. At first, I thought I was going to be stuck in the press area, but I managed to convince a cop to let me in. I caught up with Peyton, Andrea, Zay, and Liz in the ADA section. The results were much close than we wanted and everyone was nervous. Then all of a sudden the tv went off and Bernie came out! He said we won!!!!!!!!!!!!! I barely remember what else he said. He had his family join him on stage, which was adorable. In the hallway, we could see the Campaign Manager Faiz Shakir, Nina Turner, Cynthia Nixon, and Dr. Cornel West giving hugs and cheering with one another. Then, Bernie wrapped up and came around to shake hands at the fences surrounding the stage. He shook mine! It. Was. Everything!
On the way home we played "We Are the Champions" in the Bernie Bus driven by our main man Tom! This trip was amazing! I loved our group and our campaign! All love.
